Connecting

Hook Skaleton up to your DAW or synth over USB, WiFi or Bluetooth.

Skaleton sends standard MIDI notes, CC and pitch bend. Choose the connection that suits your setup. Latency figures are typical; your setup may differ.

USB to a Mac

  1. Connect the iPad to your Mac with a USB cable.

  2. On the Mac, open Audio MIDI Setup and open the MIDI Studio window (⌘2).

  3. Click the iPad icon and choose Enable. Typical latency: 1–3 ms.

  4. In your DAW, enable the iPad as a MIDI input and arm a track.

WiFi (Mac and PC)

On a Mac, open Audio MIDI Setup, go to the Network window and add a session. Skaleton appears in the directory; click Connect. On Windows, install rtpMIDI (free, by Tobias Erichsen), create a session and connect to Skaleton in the same way. Typical latency: 5–15 ms.

Bluetooth

  1. In Skaleton, open Settings → Connection → Bluetooth.

  2. On the Mac, open Audio MIDI Setup → MIDI Studio → Bluetooth configuration and connect.

  3. Typical latency: 10–30 ms. Good for sketching, less ideal for tight drums.

USB or Bluetooth MIDI synths

Hardware synths that are class-compliant can connect straight to the iPad. Plug in via a USB-C adapter or pair over Bluetooth, then pick the synth as output in Settings → Connection.

Tip: if timing matters, use USB. WiFi is fine for most playing, but busy networks add jitter.
